we made a film & scored it with our instruments
__________
normally, we make instruments for composers who write music for film.
this time, we wanted to take things a step further: make our own short film, then score it entirely with our own sounds.

WHY WE MADE IT
the idea was pretty simple.
we wanted to hear what our instruments could do when they had to support a real story - not just a demo track, trailer or walkthrough.
so we made PASSING ON.
making the film ourselves meant we could develop the story, images and music together. it also forced us to make the same decisions film composers deal with all the time: when music should enter, when it should disappear, how much space to leave for dialogue, and how to build a sound that feels connected to the film without overwhelming it.

HOW WE SCORED IT
complete score was created using only five Inlet instruments.
some of the sounds were used fairly close to their original form. others were layered, pitch-shifted and processed until they became something quite different.
working with such a small palette helped give the score its own identity. rather than constantly introducing new sounds, we kept returning to the same musical material and reshaping it around the needs of each scene.
we’ll be sharing more about how we found the sound of the film and built some of its signature textures very soon.
we hope you enjoy the film.
and if you do, feel free to share it with someone who might enjoy it too.
