a collection of subtly shifting textures, shaped from acoustic and electronic sources into reflective, cinematic sounds.

SHADES was created as a palette with gravitas - sounds that sit inside a cue, support emotion and color, and leave space for the music to feel more impactful.
we wanted to build a free instrument that feels immersive and powerful, helping search for the right emotional weight.
IMPERFECT + GRITTY
the sounds were created from a mix of vintage electronics and organic recordings, carefully processed and layered.
some sounds feel warm and more grounded. others are rougher, darker, or more introspective - adding tension without overwhelming the mix.
we explored intimate violin techniques on a massive scoring stage at la's iconic silent zoo studios.
we took bonus recordings we made and creatively manipulated them into the unique sounds of ANIMATE.

these sounds were created over several sessions in our berlin studio, built from recordings that didn’t yet belong to an instrument - but felt worth shaping into something more focused.
we explored different combinations of acoustic material, synthesis, and effects processing, focusing less on traditional sounds and more on how a sound supports emotion.
WHY
we wanted SHADES to be a free collection that leans into intensity - sounds designed to add weight, and make emotional peaks feel bigger.
it’s built to reinforce impact: thickening harmony, strengthening movement, and giving cues that extra sense of power when they need it most.

we had a really great time recording at silent zoo.
it was really cool to be in a room where a lot of amazing soundtracks have been recorded, like: the rings of power, star trek: strange new worlds, avengers, fargo, outlander, to name a few.
we wanted to create a free collection of useful sounds that inspire - sounds that can be a solid foundation for a film cue or for mood-heavy atmospheric music.
we thought that there aren't many free sound collections that explore the lesser common sounds out there and can be used as an instant "mood maker".
