why we made it

We gave trills a different job

DUSK took the bass clarinet into brooding, sustained territory. DUSK SPARKS gave that same mood more momentum. Recorded in the same session, Brandon was set the challenge of making trills, flickers and faster movement feel dramatic in a modern score rather than conventionally orchestral.

Because both instruments came from the same player and recording world, they were designed to complement each other from the start. Rather than cleaning up the faster performances, we kept the breaths, clicks and other physical sounds around the trills and flickers intact. That keeps the movement feeling played and human, even at its most vigorous.
