Across an eight-hour session with double bassist Jules Levy at Hollywood Scoring in Los Angeles, the ideas that became TURMOIL developed through conversation and experimentation between the three of us.

Drive a tense scene past subtlety

Built for hybrid scores that need to escalate, TURMOIL uses aggressive movement, sustained pressure and the natural weight of the double bass to keep low-end intensity moving as a cue builds. Instead of stacking basses, drones or extra layers to make the low end feel increasingly unstable, TURMOIL puts that instability inside one playable part.

We tried bowing different parts of the instrument, morphing between techniques and taking sounds in different directions. If something caught our attention, we could respond immediately, try another version and decide together where the idea should go next.

That back-and-forth became part of how TURMOIL took shape.
